e hope that our web site will help you discover the treasures of our
Christian heritage. The story of the Church is fascinating and Christians
have made a huge contribution toward shaping the world. We want to share
a few pieces of that tale with you. Why? Because our world has forgotten
what Christians have done to make it a better place.
Western nations are governed by forms that were first shaped by trial
and error in the Church. Many of our laws and constitutions echo Christian
theory. Music, art, economics and literature all have a good dose of Christianity
in their systems.
In fact, Christianity has succeeded so well that we take for granted
many innovations that it brought to us. We are in serious danger of losing
the memory of our Christian roots and of having our Christian heritage
stolen.
Perhaps it should come as no surprise that individuals with a secular
outlook conveniently ignore or even bad mouth our Christian past. But
what is sobering is to realize how many Christian people have lost any
knowledge of our heritage. Could it be that we are too easily captivated
by contemporary trends and unthinkingly assent to our culture's seduction
by the now, the latest, the present moment?
Understanding Christian history can help us pull back from the rush of
world events. We can uncover precedents from the past, showing how God
has worked with others and will work with us. We can gain perspective
on our current situation in light of past experience. We can develop a
sense of continuity and see how the unfolding of God's purposes transcends
any single generation, century, denomination, geography, or ideology.
Who Are We?
Christian History Institute is a non-profit Pennsylvania
corporation. We are tied to no particular denomination. Instead, we seek
to serve the entire Christian community (and the secular world,
too) by showing the part that Christians and Christianity have played
in the development of world civilization--how the church has given our
planet values, freedoms, and morals that have made life better for millions.
Our aim is to make Christian history a delight to the widest possible
public through modern media such as video and the internet. We strive
to make our output look good and communicate well while sticking to the
facts. Consequently, we are involved in film and video production and
book publishing.
